In order to connect to Veeam for Microsoft 365 with modern authentication, you need to prepare 2
requirements:
- Entra ID Enterprise Application ID
- Server certificate
If you do not have a server certificate, you can create a (less secure) self-signed certificate. That process
can be reviewed in another guide. This guide will go through the steps of creating an Application id:
Creating an Application ID
- Logon to Microsoft Azure using your Microsoft 365 global admin user. Click on ’Entra ID’:
- Click ’App registrations’ on the left. Then click ’+New registration’:
- Enter a name for this application. It is recommended to indicate it is being used for Veeam. Select‘Accounts in this organizational directory only ([User] only – single Tenant). Then click ‘Register’:
- Copy the Application (client) ID to your clipboard:
Activating service in the Veeam Customer Portal:
- Log in to the Veeam Customer Portal with the login that was provided. Click ’view’ under Actions:
- Click ’Activate’
- In the O365 Account settings screen, select the following:
- O365 type: Office 365
- Region: World Wide
- Authentication method: Modern Authentication
Enter the Application Id you created earlier.
’Under Microsoft MFA code’ click the https://microsoft.com/devicelogin link:
- Enter the code from the Microsoft MFA Code box:
- Select the correct Admin user:
- Click ’Continue’
- When signed in, close this window:
- Back in the portal, add the Certificate PFX from your PC by clicking the browse button.
When added, enter the Certificate password.
Then select the service you want to protect and click ‘Save’: - Click Yes to complete activation:
