File exclusions (applies to legacy backup, backup vault, sync folders, etc)
To exclude a particular folder wherever it occurs, and all subfolders of that folder, just enter the folder name.
For example, if you want to exclude all folders named "Pictures" and their contents, enter "Pictures" in the
exclusion area.
To exclude a specific folder, you would enter a fully-qualified path from the root of the backup job.
For example, if you want to exclude the following folder and its contents:
C:\Users\Christy\Pictures
...You could use the following exclusion:
*\Users\Christy\Pictures
If your computer backs up multiple users' profiles, and you'd like to exclude the "Pictures" directory for each,
you could use the following exclusion:
*\Users\*\Pictures
The exclusion above would exclude the following folders:
C:\Users\Travis\Pictures
C:\Users\Jarren\Pictures
C:\Users\Jason\Pictures
C:\Users\Christy\Pictures
...But would not exclude these folders:
C:\Pictures
C:\Users\Pictures
C:\ProgramData\Pictures
C:\Users\Christy\Documents\Pictures
**Note: Any time the "\" character is used in an exclusion, Jungle Disk assumes that it is a fully-qualified
exclusion and checks for the folder to exclude at the root of the backup job.
Example: If you want to exclude the folder:
C:\Users\Christy\Documents
...The following exclusion will not work:
Christy\Documents
...Use this instead:
*\*\Christy\Documents
Wildcards for single characters in file/folder names:
The "?" character can be used as a wildcard for a single character in a file or folder name.
For example, if you want to exclude the following folders:
Folder_01
Folder_02
Folder_03
...
Folder_99
...You could use this exclusion:
Folder_??
This can be used for files as well as folders. To exclude File1.jpg, File2.jpg, FileA.jpg, and FileB.jpg,
exclude:
File?.jpg
Another example: if you want to exclude files with the file name "Test" and varying three-letter extensions, you
could add the exclusion:
Test.???
This would exclude files such as "Test.txt", "Test.jpg", "Test.123", and so on.
When you change the exclusions and close the exclusions window by clicking OK, you should be able to immediately
notice changes by browsing the folder structure on the left of the backup job window. Those files/folders you've
excluded should now be unchecked.
File exclusions can be used along with Simple Backups, Backup Vaults, and Sync Folders to specify which files or folders should not be backed up.
To add exclusions for an automatic backup, go to Configure > What to Backup, and click Advanced Options.
To add exclusions for a Sync folder, go to Configure > Sync Folders, then click Folder Options and Edit Wildcards.
