Overview
When Veeam ONE is not available to be used for Cloud Connect sizing, RVTools can also be used for customers utilizing VMware for their hypervisor. This estimation can still provide a moderately accurate estimate of storage consumption, albeit less so than Veeam ONE's reports.
Running RVTools
Download and Run RVTools
RVTools is a free tool owned by Dell that can be downloaded by clicking here.
Once downloaded, run the msi file to install it on your machine. Then, open the application. From here, input the name or address of your vCenter server and credentials that can be used to access it. Then click Login.
Give the tool a few minutes to collect all information from vCenter. Then, select the vInfo tab and open the menu. Select File -> Export and choose a name and destination for the spreadsheet. Click Save.
Re-run this for every vCenter server you wish to protect with Cloud Connect.
Pruning Unnecessary Information
Open the spreadsheet in Excel. Remove all columns except for VM, CPUs, Memory, and Provisioned MiB. Also, remove any rows containing a server that will not be protected.
Under CPUs, apply SUM. Under memory, apply SUM / 1024. Under Provisioned MiB, apply SUM / 1048576. This will give us total vCPUs, RAM in GB, and production disk space in TB.
These numbers can now be used to calculate BaaS and DRaaS consumption.
