Overview
When utilizing Veeam Backup & Replication for both on-premises and off-site data protection, knowing VM resource usage is crucial to the proper sizing of backup resources and DR environments. Veeam ONE is a product that can be used to easily collect this information and offers a free community edition.
Initial Setup
Installation
When installing Veeam ONE, it is recommended to follow the installation instructions in the Veeam ONE Deployment Guide to ensure the latest requirements and recommendations are followed.
Adding vSphere Servers to Veeam ONE
- Launch the Veeam ONE Client (non-web).
- Select “Add server” from the client toolbar.
- Select “VMware vSphere” in the newly opened window.
- Enter the DNS name or IP of the server and select the server type, then click “Next”.
- Enter user credentials to connect to the server and click “Next”.
- Click “Finish” on the summary screen.
Adding Hyper-V Servers to Veeam ONE
- Launch the Veeam ONE Client (non-web).
- Select “Add server” from the client toolbar.
- Select “Microsoft Hyper-V” in the newly opened window.
- Enter the DNS name or IP of the server and select the server type, then click “Next”.
- Enter user credentials to connect to the server and click “Next”.
- Click “Finish” on the summary screen.
Adding Veeam Backup & Replication Servers to Veeam ONE
- Launch the Veeam ONE Client (non-web).
- Select “Add server” from the client toolbar.
- Select “Veeam Backup & Replication” in the newly opened window.
- Enter the DNS name or IP of the server and select the server type, then click “Next”.
- Enter user credentials to connect to the server and click “Next”.
- Click “Finish” on the summary screen.
Generating the VMs Configuration Report (vSphere)
- Launch the Veeam ONE Web Client and log in.
- Select “Reports” from the toolbar.
- Select “vSphere Overview” from the “Report Templates” menu.
- Select “VMs Configuration”.
- Select “Virtual Infrastructure” and ensure that the proper servers are selected.
- Click “Select”, then “Save”.
- Enter a name, description, and saved folder, then click “Save and navigate to the saved report”.
- Click “Preview” to generate and save the report.

Generating the VMs Configuration Report (Hyper-V)
- Launch the Veeam ONE Web Client and log in.
- Select “Reports” from the toolbar.
- Select “Hyper-V Overview” from the “Report Templates” menu.
- Select “VMs Configuration”.
- Select “Virtual Infrastructure” and ensure that the proper servers are selected.
- Click “Select”, then “Save”.
- Enter a name, description, and saved folder, then click “Save and navigate to the saved report”.
- Click “Preview” to generate and save the report.

Generating the VM Change Rate Estimation Report (vSphere)
- Launch the Veeam ONE Web Client and log in.
- Select “Reports” from the toolbar.
- Select “vSphere Infrastructure Assessment” from the “Report Templates” menu.
- Select “VM Change Rate Estimation”.
- Select the proper scope, period, and whether to show VMs with no changes, then click “Save”.
- Enter a name, description, and saved folder, then click “Save and navigate to the saved report”.
- Click “Preview” to generate and save the report.

Generating the VM Change Rate Estimation Report (Hyper-V)
- Launch the Veeam ONE Web Client and log in.
- Select “Reports” from the toolbar.
- Select “Hyper-V Infrastructure Assessment” from the “Report Templates” menu.
- Select “VM Change Rate Estimation”.
- Select the proper scope, period, and whether to show VMs with no changes, then click “Save”.
- Enter a name, description, and saved folder, then click “Save and navigate to the saved report”.
- Click “Preview” to generate and save the report.

Generating the Veeam Data Change Rate History Report
- Launch the Veeam ONE Web Client and log in.
- Select “Reports” from the toolbar.
- Select “Veeam Backup Monitoring” from the “Report Templates” menu.
- Select “Data Change Rate History”.
- Select the proper scope, interval, and job settings, then click “Save”.
- Enter a name, description, and saved folder, then click “Save and navigate to the saved report”.
- Click “Preview” to generate and save the report.

Generating the Veeam Repository Usage Report
- Launch the Veeam ONE Web Client and log in.
- Select “Reports” from the toolbar.
- Select “Veeam Backup Overview” from the “Report Templates” menu.
- Select “Backups on Repository”.
- Select the proper objects, then click “Save”.
- Enter a name, description, and saved folder, then click “Save and navigate to the saved report”.
- Click “Preview” to generate and save the report.
