Explanation
Direct Mode: Without a WAN accelerator, the replication data traffic flows from the tenant, through CCGWs, to the proxy servers, to the target ESXi servers. The proxy servers also interact with the vCenter server to locate the inventory target nodes.
WAN Accelerator Mode: Functionality is the same as Direct Mode, but with traffic also passing through the target WAN Accelerator before communicating with the proxy servers.
