Problem
When attempting to perform a failover, the replica VM fails to power on and returns an error containing "[Address] is not an allowed static Ethernet address. It conflicts with VMware reserved MACs for other usage."
Cause
The MAC address assigned to the VM is part of VMware's reserved MAC address range. This conflict is causing the replica VM to fail to power on.
Solution
Compare the MAC address on the production VM to the address listed in the error. If the MAC address listed in the error matches the address on the production VM, then the following steps will need to occur:
- Change the MAC address on the production VM
- Re-run the replication job at least once
- Re-try the failover using a restore point taken after the change
If the MAC address on the production VM is different than the one listed in the error, please do one of the following:
- Change the replica VM's MAC Address manually
- Log in to CyberFortress' VMware Cloud Director instance
- Browse to your replica VMs
- Select a virtual machine, right-click, and select Properties
- Click the Hardware tab and in the NICs section, select Reset from the MAC Address drop-down menu
- Click OK
- Contact CyberFortress Support to have the MAC Address on the replica VM changed
