How can I switch over to another Storage Provider?
Below are a couple of options.
- Leave current data where it is (Rackspace or Amazon or Google), but create any new users/online disks selecting either Amazon or Google as the default storage provider.
- Recreate your existing online disks and re-upload the data using you Amazon or Google as the storage provider. You will essentially make a copy of your online disks then delete the ones that exist in Rackspace or Amazon.
Let me expand on each option.
You can create any new users/online disks leaving Amazon or Google as the default storage provider through our admin control panel or through your Jungle Disk software if you are using our Server Edition, for example.
Steps to create a new Amazon or Google online disk on an as needed basis:
- Login to the admin control panel if you use Workgroup or the Jungle Disk software if you are using Server Edition/Desktop.
- Navigate to the ‘Create a new disk’ location, enter a name, leave the storage provider as Google or Amazon, and customize the other options to meet your needs.
With this option, you will have data for your account in multiple storage locations. Once the online disk is created and folders are added to a backup job or uploaded to the Network Drive, the data will reside on Amazon or Google's storage platform.
You can recreate your existing online disks and re-upload the data using Amazon or Google as the storage provider. You’ll follow the same steps in option 1 to create the new disks first. Next, you’ll export your existing backup job configuration settings from the current disk (or manually set them on the new online disk if that’s easier).
Steps to export your backup job configuration settings:
- Open Jungle Disk software
- Click on your current online disk and expand the options
- Expand your backup vault
- Click on your backup job name
- Click Export to a file and save to your Desktop
You should now see the newly created online disk in the software, you’ll click on it and click connect. Now, it’s time to import the settings you just exported to the new Amazon or Google disk which will mirror the current disk.
Steps to import your backup job configuration settings:
- Open Jungle Disk software
- Click on your new online disk and expand the options
- Click on your backup vault
- Click Import from file > select the file from your Desktop
Your first backup to the new Amazon or Google disk will run at its scheduled time or you can kick off a manual backup immediately.
You are now free to delete your previous disk or keep it around until the retention of the changed and deleted files expires. Most of the time that is 60-95 days.
