To install Ahsay Online Backup Manager (AhsayOBM) on a Synology NAS device, follow these step-by-step instructions:
I. Requirements before Installation Before you begin the installation, ensure the following requirements are met:
- • Supported DiskStation Manager (DSM) Versions: You must refer to the "FAQ: Ahsay Hardware Compatibility List (HRL) for AhsayOBM on Synology NAS" for the exact list of supported DSM versions. The compatible DSM versions include DSM 5.2 or above, 6.0, 6.1, 6.2, 7.0, 7.1, and 7.2. For DSM 7.2, it is only supported on v9.7 and up.
- • AhsayOBM Installation: The latest version of AhsayOBM must be installed on the Synology NAS.
- • Java Requirement: Oracle Java JDK files are included and deployed as part of the AhsayOBM v9 installation. For Synology NAS with non-Intel CPU processors, Oracle JDK 7 must be installed before installing AhsayOBM. For Synology NAS with Realtek CPU processors, Oracle JDK 8 must be installed.
- • Synology NAS Trust Level: For DSM versions 5.2 to 6.2, you need to go to Package Center > Settings > General tab and set the Trust Level to “Any publisher”. This setting is specific to these DSM versions.
- • NAS - Synology Add-on Module: Ensure that the NAS - Synology add-on module is enabled in your AhsayOBM user account. Each new AhsayOBM installation on a Synology NAS device requires an additional AhsayOBM device license, and you should contact your backup service provider for details.
- • Synology NAS User Account Permission: The Synology NAS user account used for installing AhsayOBM must be a member of the “administrators” user group.
- • TCP Port Requirement: TCP port 32168 must be free on the Synology NAS machine, as it is used by the WuiService. If this port is not free, the AhsayOBM client will not start, and its backup/restore functions will fail.
- • Backup Quota Storage: Your AhsayOBM user account must have sufficient storage quota allocated to accommodate the data from the Synology NAS device and its retention policy. Contact your backup service provider for more details.
- • Network Bandwidth: A connection speed of 10 Mbps or above is required.
- Additionally, be aware that some features are not supported on Synology NAS devices, including Auto Upgrade, Backup of Network Drives, Decrypt Backup Data, OpenDirect, Restore Filter, and Space Freeing Up.
